NEWS UPDATE!!! Leslie,MI. residents Steve and Gaylene Johnson were both injured by debris that flew from the car that sailed into the fence at Daytona International Speedway yesterday. According to Gaylene's sister, Joyce Leech, who spoke to her on the phone about an hour ago, the Johnsons have both been hospitalized and are still there. Specifically, Gaylene, 60, is in more critical condition and remains in the ICU at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona. She was struck with a 70-pound piece of steel to the chest which has resulted in internal bleeding (now controlled), bruised intestines and 30 stitches to her arm. Steve, 63, has also received stitches for a gash across his forehead and is having trouble walking, but no bones appear to be broken. According to Leech, the Johnsons were sitting in the 30th row in the upper deck near the finish line at the Daytona International Speedway. She said they are avid NASCAR fans and were there on a two-week vacation. The Johnsons own and run Riverwood Re/Max in Downtown Leslie.

We bought our house through Gaylene and Steve. Good people. Wish them both a speedy recovery.
